The re-ignition of the program’s momentum started when Kevin Lee joined Skillz in October 2023. He quickly identified the need for more resources to make the program successful and brought on AIM, based on their success together in his previous role. Together, they achieved the 1K+% in growth within 6 months at his new role.

AIM was clear to mention that without Kevin’s ongoing responsiveness towards testing new messaging, tactics, and approvals, they couldn’t have achieved success anywhere as quickly.

Communication Drives Activation

One of the most striking insights towards the power of agencies was that this success erupted out of activating and energizing the existing dormant partners in the Skillz program.

The growth spike came when AIM reached out to existing inactive or stagnant affiliates: Introducing themselves via newsletter and letting affiliates know a new management team is ready to help, reaching out to affiliates with personalized communications, and moving ongoing conversations to the affiliate’s preferred chat platforms.

Design A Competitive Payout

Kevin developed a competitive payout for Skillz by working backwards from the goal of a 6-month return on ad spend, and how much they could pay to achieve that. AIM provided guidance and implemented payout stages in Everflow for paying on the App Install and First Cash Gameplay event.

As AIM optimizes the campaign, they’ve continued to transition affiliates down the funnel towards earning on larger-stage events, like deposits. They work with affiliates to accept delayed payments in exchange for more rewarding higher-payout events that let affiliates consistently scale up their earnings – while delivering clear ROI for Skillz.

Stay Top-Of-Mind & Keep Momentum

Communication at regular intervals makes a world of difference in affiliate success. Affiliates lose faith in programs when communication sputters out. Affiliates are besieged with new opportunities all of the time, so without ongoing communication, it’s easy for them to move on to the next earning opportunity.

AIM stays front and center with affiliates through regular communications, providing highly responsive reps when affiliates have questions, and regularly delivering newly tested creatives and campaigns to push out – such as special promo codes that provide additional credits on first in-app deposits.
